Wickets tumble in aid of SpecialEffect

A Yorkshire Cricket Club has raised over £2500 for SpecialEffect thanks to a fabulous T20 cricket fundraising match.
Last summer, a Long Lee Cricket Club member was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare neurological condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the peripheral nerves, which left him paralysed and on life support.
He has now made significant improvements thanks partly to the help of eye-tracking technology supplied and supported by our specialist Stargaze team. It’s allowed him to communicate, socialise, and stream his favourite entertainment.
“The good news is that he will continue to improve,” wrote his son Jack on the event’s fundraising page, “but many others won’t.”
So Jack organised a charity match between two teams of friends at the cricket club – Team McGrogan against Team Butterfield – “to raise as much money as possible to help change the lives of people [through] the amazing technology that SpecialEffect has to offer.”
Family and friends travelled to play and support, as well as the majority of the club and many from the village of Long Lee itself.
The match ended in a thrilling draw, with Jack’s team winning after a tense Super Over.
“I know we would’ve been lost without your support, as would many others,” said Jack. “Everyone at Long Lee Cricket Club hopes our efforts mean you can keep up your life changing work.”
