SpecialEffect Founder and CEO Dr Mick Donegan was honoured to receive the ID@Xbox Gaming for Everyone Award at the 2018 Independent Games Festival in San Francisco.

The award was presented by Chris Charla, the Director of ID@Xbox, and Sarah Bond during the event on 21 March.

The Independent Games Festival, part of GDC, is an event where independent game developers from around the world come together to celebrate the talent, beauty, and creativity that exists within the industry.

“I’m absolutely delighted (to be honest, I’m shocked!) to receive this award on behalf of SpecialEffect,” said Mick. “However, I’d also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the work of all of the individuals, organisations and developers all over the world, not least here in North America, who so clearly understand the inclusivity and sheer joy that only access to video games can bring and who are working increasingly successfully to share this joy with as many disabled people as possible – whoever they are, wherever they are and whatever their abilities.”

“It’s a real privilege for myself and my SpecialEffect colleagues to be members of what I firmly believe is becoming a global movement to give a life of gaming to everyone!”
