Sheree’s always been a keen gamer but motor neurone disease has limited the movements in her left arm and hand. She’d been playing with a two-handed accessible controller setup, but her left side was becoming increasingly uncomfortable to use.

Sheree had seen how we’d supported Kyle with an accessible setup so she contacted us to see if we could help. Our specialist team met with her over a video assessment call to look at her gaming abilities and, as a result, they suggested taking her left hand out of play altogether.

They loaned Sheree a one-handed PS5 controller with the left buttons shifted onto the right grip, and a securely mounted chin-controlled joystick that mimics the left joystick. They also sent her equipment to secure the joystick and the controller in comfortable and stable positions.

She’s since emailed us to say that she’s quickly getting used to the setup – and spent six hours enjoying Assassins Creed: Valhalla. “Where there’s a will there’s a way! I couldn’t have done this without the inspiration from Kyle’s Story and the help of the team at SpecialEffect,” she wrote in Facebook post.

Our team have since added an adaptor to the setup so that she can play Mario games and Zelda: Breath of the Wild on her Nintendo Switch using the same tech, and it’s great to know that Sheree’s enjoying an even greater range of games more comfortably. Our support is lifelong, so our team will stay in touch if she’d like further support.
