Everything’s in the right place for Kian to power up his gaming journey. Thanks to support from our specialist assessment team, his assistive gaming setup is firmly secured where he needs it, so he can focus on using the buttons and joysticks to the very best of his abilities.
Kian was born without a left arm below the elbow which affects his ability to hold and grip a controller as well as using the controls on the left side. His dad got in touch with us as his son had started to show a keen interest in gaming, so our team arranged a video call to meet them both and talk through what options could work for Kian to play games on a range of consoles.
Our team suggested the loan of a suitable one-handed controller with buttons swapped over to right hand side and a small left joystick on an extension cable, which Kian could use with his ‘helper arm’.
Simultaneously holding and using a one handed controller can be tricky and distracting, so the team added the crucial loan of a soft tray and a small wedge to securely support the controller and joystick in just the right positions for him. It’s the second vital ingredient of a successful gaming solution that’s opened up a world of games, and he’s now having a blast exploring titles like Astro’s playroom, Mario Kart, Mario Wonder, Kirby, and Minecraft. “He’s having so much fun!” said his father.
Finding the right combination of assistive and positioning technology to unlock maximum gaming freedom can be a costly, frustrating and time-consuming process for gamers with disabilities and their families. It’s an honour for our team to make that journey easier by offering advice, experience, equipment loans and the promise of lifelong help and support.
We simply wouldn’t be able to offer this help without your amazing support in keeping our services and resources free of charge. Thank you – you’re truly making a game-changing difference!
