A huge thank you to all the One Special Walkers who joined together to walk across London on 3 October to raise money for SpecialEffect. It was certainly no walk in the park, especially with persistent rain and an unexpected three extra miles tacked on to the route, but the camaraderie shone through as the walkers covered 30km to help the charity make life better for the people they help.
The fantastic news is that the walk has so far raised over £135,000 for the charity!
The walk was a cornerstone event in our One Special Day campaign on 3 October where, for one day every year, companies and studios from all sectors of the games industry raise vital income, primarily by donating some or all of a day’s revenue from one or more of their games.
There will be news of the overall total raised through One Special Day soon, and remember to save the date for next year’s campaign on Friday 2 October.
The support of all our One Special Day partners – and their communities – enables us to help the thousands of physically disabled people every year who ask for our assistance. Our teams of therapists and technical specialists provide advice, assessments and customised technology loans to help transform the lives of individuals with disabilities. In turn, we freely share what we learn with the games industry to help make their products and games easier to use for as many people as possible all over the world.
One Special Walk itself was founded on the amazing support of the sponsors Electronic Arts (EA), Green Man Gaming, Alliotts LLP, Turtle Beach, Miniclip and event partners Hasbro, Gamma, Rocksteady Studios Ltd, SEGA, Wildlight Entertainment, SEGA Europe, HundredStar Games, Round Table Great Britain and Ireland, and of course our amazing walkers, without whom we wouldn’t have been able to put on such an epic event.
