After a long break from ‘real life’ fundraising events, it was wonderful to finally get back to meeting our supporters in person this Tuesday at the first ever SpecialEffect Masters charity golf day! Even the torrential downpours couldn’t dampen the spirits, as golfers from across the UK took to the immaculate greens of the Forest of Arden Championship Course near Birmingham to raise vital funds.

The team roster featured over 20 companies from the games industry and ourTwinTown community, and it was lovely to be able to catch-up with so many great friends after a tough 18 months. We were extremely lucky to be joined by one of the top disabled golfers in the world, Tony Lloyd, who as an avid gamer and SpecialEffect ambassador, was the perfect person to explain the positive impact of the charity’s work to our other guests. Not to mention showing them all a thing or two when it came to playing the 8th hole like a pro!

At the end of a competitive day’s golf in really tough conditions, SUMO Digital claimed first and second place on the leader board, with Fidelity Energy finishing third. Following a quick break to shower and change, guests then gathered for a much-needed meal and awards presentation, hosted by comedian Aaron James.

After dinner, we were then treated to a fascinating Q&A with Gaizka Mendieta, Emile Heskey, Stiliyan Petrov and Gareth Farrelly from Player4Player, before our fundraiser Tom Donegan brought the event to a fitting finale by announcing the day had raised over £25,000 in total!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who took part, donated or gave up their time to be with us, especially the sponsors and partners without whom the event simply wouldn’t have been possible. For more, please see our LinkedIn post here: https://bit.ly/3nFmucg
