Work experience with a difference

Amy in front of a banner stand"My other friends are pretty jealous," said Amy, who joined us a few days ago for a week's work experience. "Most of them are sitting in offices filing or doing admin work. I get to play games."

Probably an exaggeration, but we'll allow Amy a bit poetic licence given that we pitched her headlong onto our stand at a Microsoft Access Event on her first day. But she forgave us and spent the rest of the week working on video production, social media and game reviews.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here! The working environment is so friendly and the different aspects of work I did showed you how much work is put into a charity like this. I really admired the drive and compassion the team had towards their work. I’ve seen what their skills can do for people here and it makes me so happy to see the different people they are helping to smile and enjoy their games, just as much as any able person would."

With such a small team, it's difficult for us to give a rewarding work experience, so it's great when people like Amy come along and proactively contribute to the work we're doing. Thanks Amy, it was a pleasure hosting you for the week.

By the way, if anyone fancies donating a couple of quid via text, that's the number in the picture...
