Wanted! Teams to rattle round Brands Hatch and Le Mans in a £500 car

One fleet of £500 cars, two countries and three amazing race circuits. It’s all packed into an unmissable four-day Anglo-French driving challenge that will link the twin towns of Witney and Le Touquet in a charity fundraising event in May 2014.

The Twin Town Challenge is a unique Top Gear-esque motoring challenge being organised by Brendon Cross, former Oxfordshire Businessman of the Year and MD of STL Communications. He’s looking for 80 teams to provide and drive their own car, which should cost no more than £500, from Witney in Oxfordshire to Le Touquet in France. The journey will take in the race circuits of Brands Hatch, Le Mans and Croix En Ternois.

The event, which will run from Friday 23 May to Monday 26 May 2014, is being organised to raise funds for us to help people with disabilities to benefit from the fun and inclusion of video games.

“It’s much more than a long drive to experience some racing circuits,” said Brendon. “The teams will enjoy a VIP send-off from Cornbury Park in Charlbury, a civic reception in Le Touquet, and a fantastic finish line celebration event in Witney.”

“As it’s a points-based challenge rather than a race, I’ll be keeping the teams on their toes with plenty of outlandish non-motoring challenges during the four days. The emphasis is firmly on fun, so I’m also looking forward to giving extra points for fancy dress and decorated cars.”

Teams whose cars don’t make the distance will be transferred to a ‘Bus of Shame’, which will accompany the event.

“Many local and national businesses have already put their names forward to enter, so I’d encourage anyone interested in taking part to contact me as soon as possible via my page on the SpecialEffect website (www.specialeffect.org.uk/twin-town). It’ll be an unforgettable weekend for petrolheads, and the perfect team-builder for businesses.”

“It’s also great to be able raise the profile of the Witney/Le Touquet twinning, and I’m sure that both towns will benefit from the publicity that the event will generate.”

The entry fee for the challenge, which will be donated to the charity, is £995 per team. Teams should consist of a maximum of four people per car.

Dr Mick Donegan, our CEO, commented, “We’re incredibly grateful to Brendon and the team from STL, Urban Element and Audiomotion for organising this event. The aim of our charity is to help people to have fun, so it’s fantastic when supporters can be promised a great time raising money for us in return.”

“We’re entirely dependent on donations to carry on our work, so challenges like this are our lifeblood.”
