Tim Schafer backs SpecialEffect crowdfund

Delighted to report that Double Fine founder and games industry icon Tim Schafer has backed games charity SpecialEffect in their crowdfunding drive to raise £5950 to purchase a specialist eye control system for people with disabilities.

The crowdfunding project, Playing With Your Eyes, was launched on the Gambitious platform and is nearly 50% funded.

"The work that SpecialEffect are doing to help disabled children in the UK to play games with eye control computers is awesome,” said Tim.

“I wish them all the best in reaching their crowdfunding target for Playing With Your Eyes to help more kids who urgently need their support."

Eye control technology can help many people with severe disabilities to enjoy and play games, levelling the playing field and creating a better quality of life. It can be particularly helpful for those suffering from locked-in syndrome, motor neurone disease, muscular dystrophy and cerebral palsy.

In return for the pledges made by crowdfunding supporters, the charity are offering a range of rewards including credits on the inspirational SpecialEffect case study videos, and a full day VIP visit to the SpecialEffect Games Centre.

SpecialEffect CEO Dr Mick Donegan commented, “The demand for our work is growing all the time, so we are asking the gaming community, who have always been enormously supportive of our work, to help SpecialEffect through crowdfunding.”

“The Playing With Your Eyes initiative will help us meet this growing demand and enable us to purchase this very special piece system in order to reach and help more people with disabilities to play games.”
