Support the real men running the real marathon!

In early December, five SpecialEffect Trustees and ambassadors will be running from Marathon to the Acropolis in Athens, a distance of about 40km.

This is the real marathon, following the original route taken by a Greek runner, who was sent from the town of Marathon to Athens to announce that the Persians had been miraculously defeated in the Battle of Marathon. It is said that he ran the entire distance without stopping, but moments after proclaiming his message "Nenīkēkamen" ("We have won!") to the city, he collapsed from exhaustion.

And this is certainly no fun run. It's a challenge that's been many months in planning, and isn't part of any official marathon route or event. It's dirt tracks, hot sun and blisters all the way.

Rod, Simon, Andy, Nick and Nic are the five illustrious runners, and they'll be assisted by a Greek support vehicle.

Each runner has personally covered all of the costs of the trip, so the full amount of all donations will go straight to the cause!
