SpecialEffect cycling connection heads north

Stop and really think about what's involved in cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats. We're talking proper cycling here - sore body, aching muscles you never knew you had, day after day of unreliable weather, logistical headaches... it's a massive practical as well as a personal challenge.

That's recently been brought home to all of the team here as Jenny Hilborne, sister of Ali, our Donor Care Coordinator sets off with two stalwart buddies from the Swindon Wheelers to Scotland this week.

"My goal is to complete the journey in ten days," writes Jenny on her JustGiving page, "which is almost 100 miles per day, 10 days back-to-back. I am both scared and excited."

"The training is intense. In January, I began increasing my weekly miles from around 100 to over 200, fitting them in around work and other commitments.

Whatever the weather, I’m out riding in it, pushing hard up as many hills as I can to get fitter and stronger. With a new comfy saddle but an old back injury sure to nag me on my way, I hope I can finish. From Cornwall to Scotland - it’s a long way on a bike."

Thanks Jenny, we're with you and your team all the way!

UPDATE: Sadly Jenny's knee gave way during the second day of the ride and she's had to retire from the challenge. She has our utmost sympathy and we hope that she recovers soon.
