Second round of mods keeps Shaun gaming

It was great to see Shaun again this week. He has Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy and we first helped him in 2016 with a low-force Xbox One controller we’d modified for him.

Since then he’s found his gaming increasingly difficult, so we went to see what we could do. He’s since swapped over to a mini Xbox One controller, but he was finding that while the small size was helpful, the right stick and bumpers were both really difficult to use.

“He has really good head movement, so we mounted a mini joystick by his chin to act as the right stick, and he was soon using it alongside the left joystick on the controller,” said Joe. “He could move around in Minecraft and Fortnite really well!”

Soon he was using the right stick click with his chin as well. And to complete the setup the team remapped two small switches to his controller to act as the bumpers.

It’s fantastic to see Shaun back in control of the games he wants to play!
