"It wasn't a race, more of a hobble"

Well, they made it! SpecialEffect’s Ali Hilborne and Baz Floyd completed the 100km Race To The Stones in 24 hrs.

"That's the equivalent of two-and-a-half marathons in 23hrs 8 mins, walking from Lewknor to Avebury along The Ridgeway." said Ali, who handles our supporter care here at SE Towers. "But it wasn't a race, more of a hobble for the last 35kms at least. Quite possibly the hardest thing either of us has put ourselves through. It was gruelling, at times downright uncomfortable and it pushed our bodies to their absolute limits."

"Neither of us came out unscathed. Certainly the most painful endurance test for us both. We were determined we were going to make it though."

Sleepy tiredness wasn't an issue, just the physical pain - debilitating blisters for Ali, aching legs/hips/back for Baz.

"We're massively grateful to everyone who gave such tremendous support before, during and after," said Baz, our Ops Coordinator. "The sponsorship, now at over £2,600, messages and support throughout, we have found unbelievably touching. It helped make the pain bearable."

"And actually, we chose to put ourselves through this. Those that SpecialEffect support and help get the most out of life have more endurance than the 23 hrs we've just put in. And it gave us a huge appreciation of what all our fantastic fundraisers do to raise vital funds for us. Absolute respect to every single one of you!"
