Here, there and everywhere

Hold on to your joypads folks because we’re just about to embark on a whistle-stop tour of what’s been going on in the world of SpecialEffect since our last newsletter back in March. And what an amazing couple of months it's been…

For a small charity, we pack a mighty punch in every sense. While our occupational therapists and tech specialists are transforming the lives of disabled gamers around the world, we have a small army of wonderful volunteers and fundraisers who are constantly working to raise awareness of our work and donations to fund it.

Our team of fantastic volunteers have really gone the extra mile for us over the past few weeks as we’ve been out and about at EGX Rezzed, Insomnia and Wales Comic Con (where Kiefer Sutherland took a keen interest in our work… I know, right? Jack Bauer himself). And while our volunteers were spreading the SpecialEffect word around expo halls in the UK, Tom, Becky, Nick and Baz were in Berlin and Dubrovnik at TwitchCon and Reboot Blue, all at the invitation of the organisers.

But that’s enough about us. What were our brilliant fundraisers doing whilst all this was all going on?

Well, Jason Jones, a keen cyclist raised over £1,000 by cycling the 66 miles around Loch Ness. Meanwhile Mike, Mike and Nick, Regional Managers at our brilliant supporters GAME took part in one of four Wolf Runs they’re doing this year to raise money for SpecialEffect.

Also in running shoes and pounding the streets of London, Brighton, Stratford-on-Avon and Sheffield have been our very own Frankie Palmer, Frontier Developments’ Ali Woods, ex-Oxford United striker Steve Basham, Rick Politz, Taryna Goode and Chris Taylor in Marathons and Half Marathons. Thanks so much for the thousands of pounds you’ve raised between you guys.

And gamers came out in force to raise money over the Easter period including our friends Gaming for Others with over £2,000 from their Easter gaming marathon and our Elite Dangerous Commander friends who raised over £2,000 at the Elite Community Meet in Manchester.

To the companies, communities and individuals who have supported our work over the past couple of months, thank you so much. We simply couldn’t be here without you. If you’d like to see what you could get involved in, why not take a look at our upcoming events.
