FAQs

What is a Twin Town Challenge?

It is a unique and amazing Anglo-French driving event to drive a car from Witney to France, taking in the circuits of Brands Hatch, Le Mans and Croix En Ternois with plenty of surprising challenges on the way, keeping you on your toes and guaranteeing you a long weekend you'll never forget!

Who is originating it and what's the point?

Our marvellous supporter Brendon Cross is organising this unique and amazing Anglo-French driving event! It's a points-based challenge to drive a car, costing teams no more than £500 (you can spend additional money on pimping up the car and making it roadworthy). It's all in aid of raising money for SpecialEffect. And there will be points for grabs:

  • The best fancy dress.
  • The most competent at various driving challenges.
  • The best decorated vehicle.

Disclaimer. This event is organised by a third party. SpecialEffect have no responsibility for its organisation or any liability in respect of it.

When is it?

It's all happening from 23-26 May 2014. But you need to register well before that. Please see full itinerary above.

Who's going?

Your team will consist of a maximum of four people per car, and in total there should be between 200-250 people joining in the fun, including guides and marshals.

How much will it cost?

Teams must spend no more than £500 per car (you can spend additional money on pimping up the car and making it roadworthy), with a joining fee of £995. Please note that accommodation, petrol, food and entertainment costs will be on top of that!

What if my car breaks down on the way?

There will be a ‘Bus of Shame’ for those who break down along the way!

How do I register for the event?

Step 1
Make sure your team have got £995 to join, and you are happy to purchase a £500 car? If so move on to Step 2 quickly, because only the first 80 teams who pay the £995 joining fee will be part of the fun!

Aren't there any important details?

Yes, there are. This is NOT a race, but a series of driving and non-driving challenges for which points will be awarded. All vehicles MUST be roadworthy and legal in the UK and in France. You will be asked to provide a receipt proving that your vehicle cost no more than £500. You'll be accompanied by a team of official mechanics to assist in the event of breakdown or technical difficulty. If your vehicle ‘dies terminally’ then this is your responsibility (although there are plans to make arrangements with local recovery agencies). In the event that you're rendered ‘carless’ during the event there'll be a 'Bus of Shame' to help with your onward journey. Satnavs are allowed BUT additional points will be awarded for teams using traditional maps and following road signs. The event will be covered by a TV crew and an official photographer. The VIP departure from Cornbury will be covered by local radio.
