We're delighted to announce that David Braben, co-creator of the sci-fi video game Elite and founder of Frontier Developments, has accepted a Vice-Presidency of SpecialEffect.
David has worldwide respect from the games industry and gaming communities, having blazed a trail in science fiction-based video games. From the earliest carnation of Elite on the BBC Micro computer in 1984, Elite Dangerous has now developed into an immersive role playing game with a loyal and co-operative worldwide community: a community that has embraced SpecialEffect as its own and rallied to the cause.
For the Christmas 2016 Frontier livestream, the Elite Commanders were joined by Frontier’s Planet Coaster community in raising over £46,000 towards our work.
That's amazing support by Frontier and its communities under the approving eye of David, both in relation to fundraising and awareness, and recently we've been able to help the son of a member of the community.
“SpecialEffect is a great charity." said David. "It's wonderful to see the delighted expression on the faces of the people being able to play games for possibly the first time. I love games as they enable you to enter a parallel world, and I would hope with many it will be a great positive in their lives.”
David, we’re so pleased to welcome you to the SpecialEffect family and thank you for everything you, your team at Frontier and the Elite and Planet Coaster communities are doing to help level the playing field for disabled gamers.
