Play2Give Celebration Night
6 September 2009
SpecialEffect Supporters are being given the chance to enjoy a night of boogie, fun and games for a special night of reason – and help boost our charity at the same time.
SpecialEffect has been chosen as one alongside another very deserving cause, the Oxford Children’s Hospital, to benefit from the ‘Play2Give Celebration Night’ on Saturday, September 26.
Play2Give, an annual 6-a-side football tournament, the first held in November 2007, is the brainchild of Didcot’s 21-year old Andrew Baker. Andrew has now raised over £25,580 for charity – mainly £22,000 of that for the Children’s Hospital Oxford over the past 6 years. Andrew organises the inspiring tournament every year with a group of friends, including with others, a staunch SpecialEffect supporter and all-round action man, Chris Tarratt, together with former Fox FM Charity manager, Teresa Thompson.
July 2009’s 6-a-side football fun day – the most successful yet – saw 29 teams take to Oxford City’s football ground, more spectators turn out than ever before and more money raised any other year, with the funds looking to reach this year the £5,000 goal in Andrew and friend’s Play2Give crusade.
The ‘Play2Give Celebration Night’ on Saturday September 26, being held at The Bowyer Arms pub, in Foxborough Road, Radley, near Abingdon, is a special party being held by Andrew and his organising committee to say thanks for all those whose helped make the football-fun-filled event a massive success – including all the football teams whose taken part over the years, to contributors, the donated charities, and the organisers’ families and special friends. And, SpecialEffect charity supporters are being given the opportunity to join in.
Andrew says: “Play2Give has been overwhelming – I never imagined when I set about the very first in 2007 that it would become such an amazing successful event, everyone seems to love it and above all, everyone has a ball, and it’s terrific to celebrate it. We are pleased to support SpecialEffect and its good work for Helen & Douglas House, at the party on September 26th. I supported the appeal at Event Aid’s football sixes at Witney United earlier this summer, helping Chris Tarratt organise some excellent initiatives, and it is certainly a really splendid cause, and to support it alongside the Children’s Hospital who I really am passionate about, is really exciting. So if you’d like to come along as supporters and join the SpecialEffect team, plus loads of others, for a wonderful night then we’d love to see you there!”
All proceeds from the night will support the Children’s Hospital’s Fund to buy new specialist equipment and development enhancements of its already-wonderful facilities. The Children’s Hospital treats over 65,000 youngsters a year across the country to routine and more serious illnesses. Money raised for SpecialEffect will support the creation of a special computer games suite at Oxford’s Helen & Douglas House hospice.
Anyone who’d like tickets at £5 per person, children U16 free, should email play2give@hotmail.com. Tickets include disco and buffet. Tickets will also be available on the door on a first come, first served basis – so snap up your tickets for a bargain now!
