The SpecialEffect Gamebase

We're working to develop a brand new website for disabled gamers. Yes, there are websites out there that do a fantastic job of providing forums for discussing games with disabled access in mind, but time and time again we're being alerted to the fact that a more direct approach is required if gaming is going to be accessible to everyone.

Go to the SpecialEffect Gamebase

So why the Gamebase? We wanted a place where we could use the knowlege and experience we have gained, to reach a wider audience. Not only that, but somewhere we could share ideas and learn from others with their own experience and knowledge.

Whether it's submitting reviews, posting questions or answers in the forums or simply using the information on the site to help you or someone you know play games, we want you to get involved!

Where it all started

The original SpecialEffect GameBase pilot website contained a range of PC-based computer games and leisure software. We worked long and hard at finding out if and how each game can be played using access technology like switches, headpointers and adapted keyboards. It was based on work by the Oxford ACE Centre, whose GameOn! team, led by Mick Donegan, created this searchable database of games and their access technology. After the project was completed, SpecialEffect took over the running and maintenance of the site.
